Innovations in Performance and Talent Development

As one of Red Hat's earliest executive managers and leaders Pete conceived, founded and served as vice president of Red Hat's Global Learning Services (GLS) unit, leading the worldwide teams that established Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) as the premier Linux certification worldwide, and one of Red Hat's most successful brands.

In 1998 Pete saw an opportunity to lead and disrupt the IT training and certification industry by building performance-based training and certification programs on live Linux systems. RHCE enabled Linux system administrators to prove actual skills of value to their employers and customers. In a world dominated by multiple-choice tests and "exam cramming" Pete drove innovation and adoption of performance-based approaches to certification, testing and talent management. Performance-based approaches guarantee real skills and deliver superior outcomes and value for both employees and enterprises, whatever the skill or industry or domain of technical expertise.

Pete and the teams he developed grew GLS from zero to a $60M global business, the largest provider of Linux and open source training and certification in the world, with both classroom and eLearning offerings, becoming the fourth largest business line in all of open source. Under Pete's leadership GLS attracted more than 500,000 paying customers and produced more than 70,000 certified professionals worldwide. RHCE was been hailed as the 'crown jewel' of Linux certifications, dominating the Linux training and certification market in North America, Europe, India, Japan and China. GLS continues to be Red Hat's largest and most profitable line of business after its Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, with over one million trained and over 200,000 Red Hat certified professionals at end of 2015.
